Kinesiology Taping

What is Kinesiology Taping?

Kinesiology Taping is a technique based on the body’s own natural healing process. It gives support and stability to joints and muscles without reducing circulation or range of motion. It is also used for edema and pain management.  This non-latex, elastic therapeutic tape is placed on top of/around muscle groups and bony structures. The tape can be used before, during and after activities.  Since the material is breathable and water resistant, it can be worn for three to five days without harming the skin. Kinesiology tape is about the same texture and thickness of skin and supports the elasticity and movement of muscles. It is used to provide many benefits to both athletes and non-athletes alike.

How does it work with massage therapy?

Kinesiology Taping with massage may help to extend the benefits that you’ve received from your sessions. It can be used for anything from headaches to foot problems. Examples include: muscular facilitation or inhibition in pediatric patients, carpal tunnel syndrome, lower back strain/pain (subluxations, herniated disc), knee conditions, shoulder conditions, hamstring, groin injury, rotator cuff injury, whiplash, tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, patella tracking, pre- and post-surgical edema, ankle sprains, athletic preventative injury method, and as a support method.  The tape provides stability but also still allows for dynamic movement (i.e. even though the muscles are in a fixed or semi-fixed position you will still have full range of motion).
